    The start date

Why the record starts in December 2022.

The account opened in October 2020. The first two years went into learning the method, and the numbers show it.

    +91%

    Since Dec 2022

    S&P 500: +82%

    1.6 points a year ahead

    +73%

    Since Oct 2020

    S&P 500: +133%

    5.8 points a year behind

A start date that changes the answer needs a reason, so here is the test. December 2022 is not the most favourable date available. Starting in June 2023 would show 5.8 points a year ahead. Starting in December 2024 would show 18.6. December 2022 is where the method settled, and it is the date this record has used since.

Both windows stay on this page. You can judge the method on the period it was actually applied, and still see what came before it.

    Where the lead came from

Gold is about 46% of the portfolio and did 23.2% a year over this period, against 18.2% for the S&P 500. The stocks on their own did 17.2% a year, a point behind the index. So the lead comes from gold.

The series is the real account history, not today's weights backfilled through time. Month-end values are reconstructed from the trade ledger and month-end closing prices, converted to euro. Monthly returns are time-weighted (Modified Dietz) and chained, so deposits and withdrawals do not distort them. The S&P 500 is converted to euro over the same months and rebased to 100 on the same date. Cash held outside the invested positions is excluded from the return series.
